an UPDATE from the RECORDING STUDIO in nashville! 03/26/07
what's up, guys! nashville is posting record high temperates, birds are shitting on my car, and i'm inside our hotel room catching how toilet paper is made on the discovery channel and maury's show entitled "did my man cheat because i only have one leg". yeah you got me right...i've got pictures to prove it.
rick and i have been down here for quite a few days now. although it takes a while to get used to getting up early in the morning to sing into the afternoon, i think we've got the hang of it. we've had some REALLY productive days down here with Kirk. while we have been taking the recording of this album with babysteps, i can't tell you how exciting it is to hear what it may sound like when we're done. on top of just loving music and the whole process of recording, all of us have been putting more than just our money into this. so it means a lot to us personally that you've been following us each step of the way. trust me...we'd put this album out next week if we could. :)
i've taken tons of pictures and video footage that i'll eventually give to jimmy to post for you guys, unless i find some creative way to post a few while here. whether we've been catching our vocal performances, studio pictures, kirk's lectures, a live show we got to go to, puppies, sunsets (i'm not even making this stuff up)...i'm sure there will be something for the whole family to enjoy...so keep checking in.
we're just down the road practically from downtown nashville, which i haven't seen all that much of to be honest. on top of us just being pretty worn out after spending every day in the studio, it costs money to go to a lot of places. i'm not really thrifty, i'm just poor. haha. i have been getting on-line though to check if there are some really cheap awesome things to check out over the next few days: music stores, second hand shops, historical sites,museums...time and studio work will tell if i'll make it out though.
it's nice to be getting into a rhythm down here, even working on some new songs. but we're definitely looking foward to getting home in a few days. one days rest, and then a return to THE VILLAGE in downtown lancaster on saturday. so... keep checking in with us, give us some feedback, and join us for a little type of "homecoming" show for rick and i this weekend. it should be an interesting time to say the least!
in other short news... check back soon, as i just completed two of the first drafts in our next HUGE series of blogs: a negative space "storytellers" type of journal entry, in which i'll post some lyrics to some of your favorite songs, tell you how they came to be, and what they mean to some of us. it should be pretty fun.
THANKS SO MUCH for the continued support and the patience!
can't wait to see you all again. ;)

...BORAT SUCKS...and i "journal-ize" about it 11/13/06
okay. so i realize when i "journal-ize" or "blog", it's somewhat incoherant. (yes i have my own vocabulary and book of grammar). so let me just try and keep myself together tonight in order to tell you about my main point (borat sucks). - despite being far from home this past weekend, we had a good time at our shows. spending the eve of my b-day wasn't as lonely with familiar faces around. hell...the guys even gave me some extra pay for the week. who knew getting old would come with some benefits. so, it's a long ride home. but, i wake up, and my birthday is pretty sweet..... the eagles win, mom cooks some good food and fried banana, home-baked cake, see my lovely crazy grandparents, friends sending me texts, bitter dark alcohol and a little fairy princess riding an evil unicorn brought a new guitar into my home! that's hot stuff right? it even rained like crazy...what could make the day better? i figured a good movie! hmmm...maybe that new will farrell one, the prestige, little miss sunshine... and then the one i chose to see...BORAT. i have seen ALI G show before, so the segments i got to see were pretty funny sometimes, and sometimes not. let's get crrraaackkaaalllacckin' here though ...if you want to know what BORAT is like: watch your least favorite southpark episodes, then maybe that lame jackass show. then punch yourself in the ballz. b/c that's what it'll feel like after you pay to see it. BORAT begins with some off-color jokes, and sets up a plot with the potential to be a dirty, funny romp-road trip through american culture. i'm no stranger to this set-up. but...it quickly slips into every obvious tasteless cheap shot joke you can think of about jews, women, gays, penises, hookers, rodeo rednecks. and redneck college kids. about 25% of it was actually funny. however, 45 minutes in, i began thinking about bills and birthday cake and how nice it will be to get home.....and catch a good movie. on a sidenote comparison: southpark is very politically incorrect and outrageous and silly. not only is it just a cartoon, but it is actually smart, lining the ludicracy and tasteless pottymouth jokes with hints of social and political commentary. kids can't write this stuff.-- BORAT isn't very creative. it is not smart. heck, it's not even original. it reaches a point of no return that is border-line unforgiveable. ...i read that the college students in the film are sueing over the release of the film with them in it, and not protecting their identities. i'm wondering if i can sue them too...for 2 movie tickets, a small cherry coke, and a bag of buttered popcorn. and an hour. ...thanks a lot for the SH*TTY icing on my cake, BORAT! - hey all. check out my other blogs and rants and NEW material on myspace: www.myspace.com/joshnice. email me and message me your thoughts on songs, the meaning of life, and the meaning of movies. peace out, napoleon! josh.nice |
